Can We Speed up Metabolism and How to Do It!

You probably think that your excess weight is a result of your slow metabolism. But is that so?

Is a faster metabolism really better than a slower metabolism?

Fast Metabolism

It means faster digestion of food and consequently the need for a higher calorie intake and more food. In short, you have rapid catabolic processes. Nutrient shortages slow your anabolic activity and your body starts melting not just fat but also your own protein. Your muscles are first on the menu. People with balanced metabolisms exhibit catabolic and anabolic processes at similar rates.

Slow Metabolism

It suggests slower catabolic and anabolic processes. In itself, it should not be a cause for weight gain. The problem here derives from the fact that under the same conditions, the body needs less energy and food as a whole. If you do not keep this in mind, you cannot lose weight.

What Is the Speed of Metabolism?

It is determined by a whole set of factors:

  • Heredity affecting the overall body constitution.
  • Gender and age – men have more muscle mass and a faster base metabolism.
  • Sleep – an optimal metabolism requires sufficient full sleep.
  • Nutrition.
  • Physical activity.
  • Current health status.

Is It Possible to Speed up Your Metabolism?

Yes, it is possible to speed up your base metabolism. This is most likely to happen by increasing your muscle mass as it has the highest energy demands of all other tissues and organs in the body.

You also some control over defining factors pertaining to the speed of your metabolism. These are sleep, nutrition and physical activity. Keep in mind that in order to be healthy, you don’t need a fast metabolism, but an optimal one, where a balance between the catabolic and anabolic processes exists.

What You Need to Keep Your Weight in Check

If you want to speed up your metabolism to lose weight or keep your weight steady, you need to change your calorie balance and nutrition.

As we’ve already mentioned, a slow metabolism slows down food digestion and minimizes energy expenditure. Which means you need less food and less energy. The surplus finds its way into fat stores as reserves and in this case, your metabolism is not to blame.

Then the question arises is how to avoid accumulating fat stores.

There’s a Better Solution Than Diets

We’ve already explained how dieting is interpreted by the body as starvation and a threat to its survival. The body abruptly slows down metabolism and accumulates fat reserve. To reassure it, you need a routine food regimen consisting of small portions that can be fully absorbed by your body, so nothing remains to be stored away in reserves.

Acceleration of the Base Metabolism

This means increasing the energy consumption of the body at rest. Increase your body’s share of the largest energy user – the muscles. Pills in this case can only harm you by disturbing the fine balance between biochemical processes that the body maintains.

Increase Calorie Expenditure (or More Physical Activity)

The caloric intake should not fall below certain limits – this will cause the body to go into austerity mode. However, the calorie expenditure may be increased. The more you move and your muscles work, the more calories you burn. In this situation, your body will, like it or not, go to its fat stores for fuel.

Systematic physical activity is useful at least from two perspectives:

  1. It forms larger muscle mass that exerts more energy even at rest.
  2. It forces the body to burn the accumulated fat. For good results, turn to a good combination of strength training and cardio – dance, running, and so on.

Metabolism, on its own, is neither fast nor slow. It can be defined as either only in comparison to the metabolism of a different person or your own 10 years, or even that of a week ago. And it’s a poor idea to try to imbalance it. Take note; every time you talk about accelerating your metabolism, you mean an accelerated and increased energy expenditure. Now that, is entirely in your power.
